About WildfireScore

WildfireScore is a free, independent tool that helps Americans understand natural hazard risk at the county level. We analyze data from the FEMA National Risk Index, which evaluates 18 types of natural hazards for all 3,143 US counties.

Our Mission

We believe everyone should have easy access to understand the natural hazard risks where they live, work, or plan to move. Our goal is to make FEMA's complex risk data accessible and actionable.

Data Sources

FEMA National Risk Index (NRI) — Comprehensive risk scores for 18 natural hazard types across all US counties. Includes expected annual loss, historical event frequency, social vulnerability, and community resilience metrics.

NIFC/WFIGS Fire Perimeters — Historical wildfire boundary data from the National Interagency Fire Center, providing fire names, dates, and acreage for significant wildfires.
